Qmail, a simple message transfer agent, is meant as a replacement for the entire sendmail-binmail system on typical Internet-connected UNIX hosts. Designed by Daniel Bernstein as an improvement on the MTAs typically bundled with operating systems, it makes an effort to be more secure, achieve higher performance and greater reliability than proprietary source alternatives.
