Postfix is a secure, fast, and easily administered program for routing and delivering e-mail. It's the default MTA (Mail Transfer Agent) for Ubuntu, Linux, and other Unix-like operating systems. Some features include:

TLS (Transport Layer Security).
Different databases (like Berkely DB, MySQL or PostgreSQL) for maps.
Several styles of mailboxes (mbox or Maildir-style and virtual domains).
The delegation (to an external process) of SMTP policies, which allows "greylisting" (a method of protecting users against receiving unwanted mail).
Address rewriting.
