This version's development strongly focused on CPython 2.5 language compatibility. The resulting product allows Jython 2.5.0 to run more pure Python applications than any prior release. Many changes were made in this version; some of them are listed below:

Codec error handling schemes now have a more flexible callback based approach.
If a number is too large, int() will now return a long instead of raising an OverflowError.
Dictionaries now has a pop() method and .fromkeys() class methods.
Many type objects are now callable.
A new set of import hooks allows for better customization.
