Newer versions of iText are licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License Version 3.

Older iText versions offer users a choice between the Mozilla Public License 1.1 and the GNU Library General Public License 2.0. The LGPL is maintained for backward compatibility and the developer of iText requests that developers who choose to use the LGPL mention the MPL as an alternative license.

Use iText when you need to generate read-only, platform independent documents containing text, lists, tables and images. Used in combination with Java-based servlets, you can control exactly how your output will look.
